Our 1997 Toyota blew out the oil seals and gaskets from the top of the engine to the rear main seal. This caused the water pump and timing belt to go out. Is this related to the oil gel problem?

What is the best engine I can get for 1980 Pontiac Trans Am? My friend is getting a Chevy S-10 with a 350 engine. He would easily beat me now. My car is too heavy and I have a 301 engine. I have already started making it lighter but I know I will need a huge engine. Please Help
