Lock the wheel straight ahead, DO NOT TURN IT AT ALL the new part will have a lock on it to keep it where it needs to be installed at, remove the lock and carefully hold it so it does NOT move and install it over the steering shaft. Replace the wheel and other parts and you should be good to go.By the way, the name for the part your changing is a sliding contact aka: Clock spring.
