they aren't profitable. Have you noticed corn prices, A gallon of corn ethenol will cost 5 bucks. Hydrogen isn't easily distributable.
ethanol really isnt a green feul, it provides as much fuel as it does to get it actually, and adds to the food shortage.
I disagree completely-- the interest is definitely there: just look at the media frenzy these days surrounding the fraud of global warming. Look-- I'm all for alternate energy. I'm a huge fan myself of solar. We up here in the Pacific NW get a ton of our electricity from hydroelectric forms. The matter isn't about interest.... but it should be about how we can make these things economically viable. It takes time-- nobody can just rub 2 sticks together to make a fire... it takes some engineering work, funding, testing, safety checks and then acceptance by the masses. Even if gas was at $10 tomorrow, we wouldn't (and couldn't) just switch over everything to "green" energy in a snap.
i no that, butr there r so many that dont get any hydroelectric power, and we need it to get started, theres a little stuff going but thats just for the media, nothing real.
Again, I disagree.. here's a personal story... in my workplace, we have lost 7 Ph.Ds to a neighboring company called SolarWorld in the past few months alone... they are growing very quickly... they make solar cells. I hear stories like that all over... just take a look at the stock market: Trina Solar, Evergreen Solar, SolarFun (not kidding), etc.... tons of solar stocks..... actually, that's a great place to see the action-- the stock market.... just look at all of the "alternate" energy companies out there now-- A TON OF THEM. That alone is proof to claim my disagreement. I charge you to research it more-- just go to MSN Money or Yahoo Financial and take a look at all of the "alternate" energy companies, and how much money they burn thru annually (proof of their R&D efforts.)
oil companies and auto makers have managed to make alternative fuels so expensive the the average consumer can't afford it. lobbyists have 'convince" senators and congressmen to keep funding for alternative fuel, this includes home energy sources, low enough that many options cannot be explored. just my opinion in the early 1980's we were going to buy a house for $37,000 we wanted to set up a wind generator and some solar panels. The permit for the wind generator was $15,000 alone, We could not build our own generator we had to buy one from a single supplier $22,000. We never even checked the solar panels. We didn't but the house.
As long as the big oil companies keep getting tax breaks from our government without having to put realistic effort into producing alternative energy sources, it will not happen . Our congress is not interested in making our country energy independent. They are for their special interest groups who donate to their reelection campaigns. That's why we need campaign reform, and also the reason we won't get it with them in office. We will elect a new president; but will not see any change unless we elect a new congress.
