It depends on your car, some cars have a live feed regardless of the ignition switch position and some will shut off the power when the key is removed.Since you failed to give even any clue as to what make and model of car you own then this question os impossible to answer

Its a 2002 Buck century. I say its the type that cuts off the power. since my cell was dead after a few days of being parked!Thank You TOOmuchtm you'll be missed and being able to ask these questions and get answers will really be missed.
Hello Lou:Test your car's cigarette lighter when it is parked, did you light up a cigarette?If it did, you will recharge your cell phone. If it did not, you will not recharge your phone.I had to rewire a new cigarette lighter into the cars systems to keep some of my hardware up and running 24/7
