President Bush wants to give everyone free money to help the economy, will this strategy work?

Skullz5:

it might nothing else is.

Dave:

No. It's dfounded on thge assumption that people actually have stores of money that they are 'pyschologically' blocked from spending. The high interest loans that bush wants to force upon us will simply be spent and spending stopped since people are already in debt and doubt.

Therefore, an infusion of cash produces a short term blip and no long-term benefits. It also increases the national debt and deficit, hence why I call it a high interest loan. Don't be fooled by slogans of rebates or free cash! You pay dearly for it!!!

Little:

in all fairness this has nothing to do with an administration or the government... it has to do the the people spending more than they make...

the influx of cash back to the people would only increase our national debt 1/10th of 1%... in turn, this money will be injected back into the economy which stimulates it, causing a downturn in our national debt... the individual debt will not be paid by most americans, they will spend it...

people keep saying we are bankrupt... but the fact is, we are only at about 64%... far less than many other wealthy countries including canada, france, germany, japan etc...

Dave:

No, it won't. It'll cause a forced (artificial) brief spike which is paid for by more debt. People don't have the money to keep spending. This is nothing more than taking an aspirin for cancer. It may reduce temporarily the fever briefly but that's all.

It's a very republican thing to say it's OK to add more and more debt as long as it's just .1%. Just one drink said the alcoholic!

my answer to this question says how I feel about trickle down economics.

Pattie:

free money...what's that? lol. if he really wants to help the people, he should find a way to make sure everybody can have medical/dental insurance, better payroll, mandatory year-round schooling/education, and force these sorry butted people to work. these are things that are going to be constant actions. is he going to constantly give this free money to the people? or is this just a one time thing? i missed the televised session on this topic.

BILLYKID:

Sure it will. Doesn't it always help? Aren't we better after we got free money the last time we were in this same spot?

Pattie:

i think that i got the chance to enjoy about $15.00 of that last free money he gave us. as for the other $585.00 they took it back, said we owed it for taxes. Whaaaa?

Little:

it worked when clinton did it... we saw a 4% drop in our national debt...
