Why do we even need to learn Math in schools?
Lol ok I'm not some teenage dropout, I was wondering about this because I really love math and want to do electrical engineering, but was fearing that all of those math/analysis-related jobs were going to be outsourced in the near future. Some say that there will be greater demand in the US for engineers/researchers/scientists/programmer... while others say that anything that can be done in front of a computer will be done in India or China. I don't mind becoming a doctor if I can't pursue a career that requires good math skills. So do you think that math skills becoming ever more important in today's lucrative job markets, or will I just be competing against a whole new continent of workers for less pay?

Everything is based on numbers whether we realize it or not; so yes, math is important.

Sorry, I thought I did answer your question. I told you math is important. With good math skills you can at least be at the top of the heap.

I have a masters in math from stanford. I also have over 90 employees. and own a construction/development co. Daily our estimates are wrong as are calculation for materials. It would seem that if there is no calculator available it is an impossible taske to figure out material requirements. Wednesday a superintendent had delivered to an 800 square foot house enought drywall to do over 50 homes. It was COD and he wrote a check for 171,000 dollars and the bill should have been less than 2 thousand. All he said was. I'm not very good at math. quite an understatement.

math skills will always be important, no matter what job one has or where one lives....I think they are even more important today than they were years ago....it would be nice if our jobs werent outsourced so much but then if their skills are better and they work cheaper then for those that value the dollar above all else yeah you probably will be doing just that....

It's more important than ever....if you want to compete successfully in a world employment market, you need to know as much math as you can.

yeah, i guess you're right. you're saying that it's even more important now because there is an even greater workforce to compete against. it's kind of a negative way, isn't it?

I don't see it as a negative....advances in transportation and technology have brought the world closer together....I think this is a good thing.

I think learning mathematics is very important because it improves analytical and logical ability of a person. In today's world mathematics is applied everywhere, be it simple calculations, accounting, engineering. Also, mathematics is present in some form or the other in any applied or theoretical science. So prepare yourself and study seriously, because if you conquer mathematics, you can conquer anyone, even those Indians and Chinese.
