Hello MacMurray, A friend is at a meeting tonight discussing this very issue.Unfortunately I did not get the name of the organization. I will and post a message to you.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. Have a good evening... or whatever time it might happen to be in your corner of the world.
Have you tried a site called LinkedIn?It's a very good site, and has many different uses - but it is mainly to "link" to people and companies who might want to do business with you or hire you.It takes a while to get to the site, since has so many features, but with a little patience you'll be able to get up and running pretty quickly. The address is: www.linkedin.comI highly recommend it. I use it myself, as do my sister and my niece.
Thank you... and thanks for the wake-up call. I am on LinkedIn already, but as the business person I was, not as the one I want to develop at this point. I was reluctant to change my profile to reflect something I truly have nothing to show for, even though it is very real... but what have I got to lose. Thank you.
You might consider going back to school. There are often times tests for aptitude that are given as part of your re-assessment to attend classes. It can be a very positive experience and may open some new doors for you.
Yes indeed. Thank you.
Try your labor department.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Sorry... no offence intended, but they are totally focused on keeping someone going in the same and only direction that have been going so far. These people are not trained to think outside of the box, and often they do not even want to. This is why I am looking elsewhere. but you have a point, maybe there is a labor department out there with programs or staff with a more open mind. Thanks.PS: My husband went to our labor department to get assistance re-orienting his career. After weeks of career and personality tests, they told him he would do well as a dentist (he has been a carpenter for over 40 years). You should have seen the look on his face when he walked out of there. I think he was not sure whether he was still on the same planet! :):):)
Our labor dpartment has an online site where you can apply for any job available.
Yes, our too. Where are you located? Ours has tons of job postings. The one thing I am discovering is that employers here are not interested if you say "I worked for someone for 12 years doing ABC and now I want to do CDE. I have experience doing CDE, but none that another real employer has witnessed." Switching direction is the tricky part. It seems one is only credible if they can produce a list a mile long to justify the change in career. Maybe I need to dig into my local office's resources more. Maybe I missed something. Thank you.
You have to fib about experience. I got a job as an electrical helper with no experience b/c my hubby told me what to put on the form.
Good for you. I guess I do have to learn how to "present my case", so to speak. Thank you.
Go for the job you want.
Makes perfect sense. Are you able to give someone who momentarily lacks confidence a kick in the you-know-where from there? ha! ha!
Don't know about that, my hubby did it for me and it worked.
Remember that there are a ton of us who are fishing form the same small pond,So I say take a couple of classes at the local community college to freshen up on some skills.and have someone help you make your resume stand out.http://www.job-hunt.org/and here is a site that will help you with the interview .http://www.quintcareers.com/job_interviews/weaknesses.html
Thank you. I don't think I had come across Job-hunt yet. Pretty busy page. Lots to look at. And yes, the job hunters population is most certainly at an all-time high, so competition is up there too. Thanks Underdog.
ooops should have read all the answers after reading all the question-
Here's something different-http://www.secretsofthejobhunt.com/profiles/blogs/866628:BlogPost:8564
