The piston goes up - it takes gas & air inThe piston goes down compresses the air and gas with the spark plug giving a spark to cumbust the gas miture. The spark plug does the hokey pokey and turns itself around - that's what it's all about.
thats more like it, ha
A twin cylinder engine takes two spark plugs. There's a difference in twin-cylinder and a double-stroke engine. Perhaps that's where the confusion is coming from.Double-strokes have one plug and run on a gas/oil mixture.
two cycles have the same amount of spark plugs as four cycles. 1 for each cylinder
Every cylinder needs its own plug unless its a diesel. They don't need plugs at all. So a twin cylinder gasoline engine has two spark plugs. Each cylinder has its own combustion chamber, an exaust valve and an intake valve. The cycle goes intake (down), compression (up), combustion (down), exaust (up) and then it repeats.
Higher performance engines (specifically the BMW R series, and some used for ultra-light aircraft) are made or converted to have dual plugs in each cylinder. So some twins have 4 plugs.
