Because there is 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour. It was easier to rate distance by time.
Yup. First response indicating intelligence! Best answer!
but how many minutes in a mile???
They wanted people to know how fast they could break the law.....
ROFL!!!Good One Pierre!!
Speed limit doesn't matter to these people. I don't know where it originated, but it's a flashy term. Also, a 55 speed limit means people go 60.
Or 65, or 70....Thanks Katana!BTW I ride a Suzuki among others.....
Aren't there places that the speed limit is 65? Like on interstate highways?
It used to be 55..... now it goes all the way to 80 in some parts of texas I dont know if there're places that have higher speed limits
70 around here....just wondering about the 0 to 60?Mornin' suny!
Whazzup? jag-man!I believe 0-60 is used because 60 mph translates exactly to a mile-a-minute.
good one russ!
Oh, the beauty of youth!Speed limits were reduced to 55 during the (imaginary) oil crisis of the 70s as a way to conserve oil and reduce traffic fatalities.A couple of decades earlier, before the National Defense Highways (a.k.a., interstate highways), only a few roads had speed limits of 60, especially in the East.
memories like the cobwebs of my mind....thx Criado!
Mr. ed- thought a horse could do about 35-40 mph, over 6 furlongs.
We can go much faster in the horse trailer.
