I installed a cold air intake on my car and know car is making a noise when i give it gas that
sounds like i have one of those mufflers you see on street cars. why is this? and it will not hurt my motor will it.

That throaty noise is what your hearing. The lack of an airbox allows the throttle plate to emmit vacuum pulse noises. The only thing I can think of getting hurt is a (MAF) mass air flow sensor. This would come from over oiling the air filter and contaminating the sensor with oil. A drivabillity condition would occur in calculating fuel delivery. Your car may or may not have an MAF.
