Chemically dangerous headphones??? (Read details below!)

I bought a pair of headphones (Coby CV-790) for home use and such, andits got gold plated cords and stuff... but on the back of the box itsays "WARNING: Handling the cords on this product will expose you to lead, achemical known to the state of California to cause[cancer, and] birthdefects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."Should I be worried? Should I return the product? What if I get cancer?? >.< Wash my hands everytime I use em??? ahh please help! I like the headphones the sound is great.. but the whole lead thing scares me...
Ssfury:

Lead is more harmful to children because it affects their developing nerves & brain.
If you had the headphones around little ones who may chew or put them in their mouths, you'd have a danger.

The tiny possibility that you'd get a v. small amount on your hands is quite remote unless it's chipping and flaking off. Once they are getting worn out, that's the time you'd want to throw them.

Washing just encourages safety so you don't put your hands in your mouth or on food when the covering starts to wear. I wouldn't worry about it at all until they start showing signs of wear. Lead in safe amounts are in a lot of places. If it had HIGH lead content, it couldn't be sold.

Just keep them out of the reach of children. :)

hey thanks for the response!!
that makes me feel a little better xD

Minerva:

Proposition 65 (a CA law) requires anything that has a traceable amount of lead (which could just mean that one particle in the wire has lead) to put that warning on the box. Some containers of milk even have that warning. The warning just came out of a lawsuit, and it is CA's way of trying to be careful. Don't worry, and enjoy your headphones.

Raymond:

I don't even LIVE in california... and i bought the headphones from a store nearby my house...

but thanks for the response it made me feel better xD
