Can an employee legally refuse to use a biometric (fingerprint) Time Clock? (State of Ohio)

We have employees citing religious and privacy concerns. The religious concerns deal with the "mark of the beast" the privacy dealing with possible past criminal records. I think their concerns are unwarranted but any help (please Cite any sources) would be appreciated.Thank You!!!
Shyam:

LEGALLY YES, BUT IT IS LEFT UP TO THE EMPLOYER OVER WHAT THE POLICY IS AND IF THEY WONT CONFORM TO THE POLICY THEN SEEK LEGAL GUIDANCE AND IF YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT THEN FOLLOW THE EEO STANDARD BEFORE SERVING THEM NOTICE OF SUPENSION

Stacey:

I would agree with the employees you cant force them to put finger prints on file. You should seek another way like video camera with a punch card. Seek legal advice but you will waste your money and maybe a law suit if your counsel is wrong.

2 Cents:

The company I worked for sometimes had Military contracts, and if we were going to be assigned to work on one of them, we had to submit our finger prints and fill out a very detailed security report before we could. So I understood the need. As for religious and privacy things, many companies make their employees wear badges with the workers' photos on them. Is that an invasion of privacy too? They now have badges that work like an ATM card, and you just slick them through the machine, and the gates open, then put your badge on your collar or however you wear it. I would think they should appreciate that the company has to protect itself from cheaters.. people who punch someones time card because they snuck out early, for instance. And this seems like a quick and cheap way to do it.
More 2 cents worth.
