Congress let the eavesdropping tool used to ferret out terrorists die this week. What impact will it

have on our security? Can it be revived?
Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

Serious breach of security allowing it to drop...contingency plans kicked in hopefully. Those in control would not allow all monitoring to drop......hopefully.

Aneesh:

Good call, Moot and Mac. (Hiya). I hope we can keep ahead of trouble. Why would Pelosi and her henchmen pull this boner? ThomKat.

Just Me, Always !!:

I believe the act is an act of invasion on privacy and if passed it will chip away yet another piece of our freedom as Americans. If that law had passed it would have made all Americans suspected terrorist until proven innocent.

Congressman Russ Holt gave a speech on why he opposed the law and why he was extremely concerned with passing this act.

One will never be "safe" from a terrorist attacks, only better prepared. However, losing our freedoms to never regain them again will not solve the problem or make us safer it will create new problems to those that already exist in America.

Great question, hopefully more will read up on it since you posted it. A search on Congressman Holt would probably give detailed information on the act when found.

Aneesh:

I pray, Sandra, if the act is not revived, that we can "read peoples minds", and ferret out evil. Bless. ThomKat.

DrewT:

Some would say and the patriot act is a necessary evil, but is the patriot act necessary. Sandra made a very elegant point, and I would agree with her point and the congressmen. The problem with the patriot act is the act assumes all patriots are terrorist, so the name is very misleading. I would not have a problem congress having a surviellance act that only included members of the islam/muslim religion.. I do think a line does need to be drawn in the sand with americans freedoms, that are be slowly erroded away. As americans we must be careful in what freedoms we are willing to give up..

Aneesh:

thanks, Capt. Morgan. We ARE in troubling times and I believe in a religious war. The muslims are devout in their credo of, 'Infidel dogs" must die. ThomKat.

Ginger:

Why are you blaming congress? They passed the bill to extend, but Bush vetoed it.

He vetoed it because it did not grant immunity to the telephone companies. If it is really necessary, then he is sacrificing your security just to protect the phone companies.

Now he is blaming congress even though it was his action that prevented the extension.

Aneesh:

Ginger, begging pardon, ms. Congress dropped it y/t/day. ThomKat.The senate passed it. Congress is the snag.

.......:

Congress a snag? That great wonderful powerful all knowing body of...
I'm thinking along the lines of what fills in a cess pool and I don't mean a backhoe.

FatherAbraham:

Maybe we'll feel a little more safe, talking on our phones.

Aneesh:

You have a point. But i felt if we weren,t terrorists? what would it hurt to listen for trouble? Thanks, John.

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

Hey johnboy51....ever think about the fact that someone wanting to plan or carry out an attack may use a cell phone or other device? I thought not

Stitchybutt:

Good now they can stay the hell out of private citizen's business.

Aneesh:

Hopefully they will let your line alone , I am for security surveilance. We are too vulnerable to Islamic attack. ThomKat.
