Biblically is getting remarried after divorce considered adultery

Disciple:

Hello, hello.... here is the answer to your question. The Holy Bible (KJV if you read english), teaches that there is only ONE provision for a man to divorce and re-marry, and that is "for the cause of fornication". Fornication means "sexual intercourse between unmarried persons" (webster's Dictionary), and can ONLY occur during a marital relationship durin a period of time that we call the engagement, or betrothal period. For instance, look at Matthew 1:18-20. According to the law, IF Mary had been guilty of fornication (Sexual unfaithfulness before her wedding), Joseph would have had the right to put her away (divorce her). The Bible says he "was a just man". But even though their marriage had not yet been consummated, the scripture clearly states in this passage that he was her husband, and that she was his wife. That is because they were BETROTHED. Betrothal is marriage, yet during betrothal the marriage has not yet been consummated, or finalized, in order to give the groom a period of time to prove his betrothed wife faithful before sealing the covenant for life on the wedding night. Once the wedding has occured, and the man has consummated the marriage by sexual union with the bride, and accepted her, then the marriage is binding, they are one flesh, and the ONLY thing that can separate them or give them provision to re-marry is the death of the other spouse. Period. No place in the Bible tells us that adultery is cause for divorce or re-marriage. The same goes for the non-specific terms "sexual immorality", or "marital unfaithfulness", which appear in the perverted New Age Bibles like NIV and NASB, and can mean many different things to many different people. So the answer to your question is a definitive YES. "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery; and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery."...That is the

Choicecash:

Some religions do believe that way, for instance Jehovah's Witnesses believe it is adultery to remarry; unless, the person obtained the divorce because their spouse committed adultery or their spouse was holding them back from serving their god Jehovah. I am not sure if any other religions believe that way or not.

Murdoc:

Unless your espouse commits sexual immorality (commits adultery), you should neither get divorce or be remarried. If you are already divorced for reasons other than infidelity, then you should wait until your ex gives the first step. Once he/she has been with someone else, you are free to remarry.
If you remarry after been divorced, and your divorce was for reasons other than adultery, then yes, that is considered adultery. This is what Jesus taught.
My thoughts? It is a hard thing, and I would not condemn anyone that has tried to find happiness once again in their lives. But if he/she if a follower of Christ, I would point this matter to them with love and kindness.

Trina:

Hello.
Well, if you divorced from your first spouse...wouldn't that logically mean that the union between you both wasn't quite 'right' to begin with?

So, why not try to find a great love again and remarry?

My own personal thought is; if it is beneficial and makes you happy and whole again...then who gives a hoot what "something" else labels it as?

Thomcat:

The Bible says it is, I personnaly don't understand, but jesus said he is ubove us and we wont understand all of his rules

Orangeman:

Luke 16:18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Nogard:

Tell that to women who are beaten by their husbands and divorce them and then marry a good, gentle man.

Orangeman:

Luke 16:18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

I did not write it, but I do believe it!

As for your statement, if we had proper courtship and betrothal in this day and age, that may not be as much of an issue.

Also, this scripture is speaking to Christians...Generally, if you meet your mate in church and they are truly godly people, then that would not be so prevalent.

Well, there are a lot of issues involved that if mentioned, would probably cause arguments. I know that even if you met your mate at church or you know them to be very godly people, does not mean that they will remain that way or never do anything wrong, but I do think it lessens the likelihood.

NativePatriot:

Yes it is and a whole lot of common things are too. It would also depend what testament you are reading or what sect of Christianity you follow. The book similarly condones jenocide with the countless cases of God promoting it. Of course Hitler's Mein Komf too but I will always be able to find those good moral quotes in either book but that does not redeem them. The moral choices never came from any holybook, it came from us and that is what the believers are afraid to admit to be responsible for their own actions. So in essence I agree with Trina.
