(I am assuming you are on windows xp).

The first thing to do is open a command prompt (Start Menu, Run, cmd.exe) and type

ipconfig

and then hit enter.

You should see something like

C:\Documents and Settings\bill>ipconfig


Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.109
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

The thing to look at is the default gateway, to make sure it's something other than 0.0.0.0 or blank, and the IP Address, which should be something other than 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.something.something. if you dont have a default gateway, or your IP address is one of the 0.0 or 169.254 ones, it means you arent getting an IP address, which is a problem on their end. (your results may say "Wireless adapter something or other" instead of "Ethernet adapter whatever", but the idea is the same)

if both of them are OK, do something like (from the same command prompt)

tracert www.microsoft.com (hit enter). You should see something like

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 12 ms 9 ms 13 ms 10.216.128.1

(and a whole bunch more, until it gets to the destination. What will happen if you are having connectivity problems is that you'll either get "cant resolve host <whatever>" or a bunch of *'s where the timings above are (i.e. inste

Sounds like the hotels system settings are blocking you some way, you may wish to tell them you need their tech support on this issue because it is their tech admin that will know what is wrong.

are you certain you are connecting to the proper signal, and not the network, try taking it down to the lobby and see if you see other connections
