How do evil companies like Accenture, IBM & Microsoft manage to keep a large pool of smart people ??

The other day someone mentioned in the same breadth that Accenture does not pay well and yet has some bright people ;)
UNlimitedVisions:

They pay good and have good benefits. Microsoft and IBM are retirement plans in the form of 401k's, profit sharing and bonuses. I don't know much about the other company so I cant say for them. They also have good benefit plans. I am not sure by what you mean evil companies, since the company is not an entity it cannot therefore be evil. Bill Gates and his wife give out 3 billion a year to charities, this does not condone how he got his start and maybe it is his way of making amends to the people that got stepped on in the early years. His company also has one of the highest percentage of millionaires in this country, so apparently they don't believe it to be evil.

By "Evil", I refer to someone in QnA who said that Accenture does not pay the bright people they have. Obviously if you have bright people, you want to compensate them for the value that their natural talent creates and make sure that they stay with you.

Sweetness34:

Its become fashionable to bash companies to look cool. But the reality is quite different. Nobody is going to take your comments seriously if you adorn the names of companies with nice swear words, if you do not back them up with facts and why they are evil and stuff. Rather than just bashing, if you engage in a constructive dialogue about what you don't like, you will get a better response.
Regarding how they have bright people, has it occurred to you to evaluate whether the people who are complaining about low wages are actually worthy of higher pay with respect to the work they are doing (I am not saying they cannot deserve higher pay, but if they are actually doing the work to deserve so; it may happen due to lot of reasons - that the job is not something they like is the most important)? Or that there may be people who like the projects they are working in, they like the environment they are working in? Have you ever worked at any of these companies? If not, then you are not entitled to make a comment about their workforce - an entity you have no idea about.

Sweetness34:

And from my own experience, you cannot complain of the pay nor about the work environment, at least at Microsoft (no I do not work for Microsoft, but do have first hand experience). Whether you agree with the business practices or not, is not the question here, though.

Toots:

I am totally in agreement with your opinion in this matter.

Toots:

I am considerably familiar with the Accenture model and acknowledge that they posses one of the most admirable talent pools in the world. I posed this question to specifically explore vogue in bashing trend setting company brands and your explanation satisfied me.

Ciao.

Sweetness34:

Thanks. And btw, all "you"s I used are generic yous, not directed to anyone in particular.

Rick:

My son retired from IBM after 23 years. His pension is $23,000.00 a month and he has health insurance with no co-pay. Evil company I think not.

Kevhav1:

Well .... it does help to have a big name associated with the resume before moving on and negotiating on the salary with the next company....

Toots:

Is it bright to start with a company that does not value your natural talent and get true market value by using its name to negotiate rather than selling your capabilities in the first place??

Kevhav1:

You know.... sometimes I think business...talent etc. are all in different dimensions......... If a company realises that it is beneficial for them to cut down the top talents and work with the lower talents spending less money....they will do it...... may be later for any challenging project they can hire again......

And it's the same for any employee....... work for 5 yrs in a big company (ofcourse in your desired field) ..... the market is after you ......

Unless you are the CEO ....forget about doing something using your talent in big companies.... may be medium sized companies...

Kevhav1:

I mean doing something revolutionary.....new......
