If you mean change godmothers in the eyes of the Catholic Church, there is no way to do that according to this link. When you open it, seach "chang" (no e, so you catch "changing" as well). This link also talks about the ease of having more than one godmother...that would seem to make good sense. You wouldn't have "fire" one -- just say something to your child about, "You're so lucky you're going to have TWO godmothers." I thought that was a cool suggestion. Talk to your minister or pastor or priest and see what they have to say. Good luck.

My suggestion would be to have the child re-baptized, full ceremony and choose different god-parents. I think contacting the church would prove insightful. I imagine they would sanction this procedure.

sorry carole, the church recognizes only one baptism for the forgiveness of (original) sins, therefore this is not a viable option.

This kind of thing happens more often than not. Although "legally" there is nothing you can do in the eyes of the church, you certainly can ask someone of faith to step in and take over the roll. You can make a big deal out of it by having a luncheon or even a girls only tea party so that your daughter will remember the day. Make certain, though, that this doesnt happen again by choosing a person who is faithful, caring, compassionate and willing to help your child grow in her faith life.

By the way.....you can't be re-baptized, so that is out of the running as a possible solution.
