Your service carrier may not allow a data connection via your cell phone. You carrier's website might tell you if a data connection is allowed. I know Verizon Wireless requires a data plan to tether a cell phone to a computer which is what your doing. And a data plan is still required with Verizon even if your dialing out to some other ISP because data is still being transferred. Hope this helps.

Well either way, it still uses data. I tried this through Verizon and I called out to an ISP like NetZero but still got charged because data still ends up traveling through your carrier's line.
