my 8 yr. old has one, but it's designed for children...it has only 2 #'s saved...my cell and my mother's house...he doesn't need to call anyone else....

the one i got him is by motorola "firefly"...it has a "mom" and "dad" button...he hardly uses it, but it's still there for emergencies...i've actually used it to call my mom from the road when i'm running late...LoL!!!!!

I have mixed emotions on this one. If any kid that had been abducted by a stranger had a cell phone they could be tracked by the phones GPS. I think that it is ok as long as they can be responsible.

no i do not.my kid has had one since she was 10.it is important to remeber that anything can happen and they need to know they can talk to you at anytime.again no it is never to young to feel safe and secure.for both of you.
At 51 I sometimes wonder if I'm old enough to have a cell phone. On the other hand, I saw a preschooler standing in his front yard yakking on a cell phone just last week on my way home for work. Bottom line, in my opinion, a person is old enough to have anything legal he or she can earn enough to pay for.
