is Vicks and a vaporizer okay to use with a cat that has upper respiratory cold?

Animal shelter has been using a vaporizer and Vicks additive to help cats recover from colds, is this okay to do? I know that people use if for babies, will it harm a cat?
Mel:

My daughter uses vicks and vaporizer in her daughter's room. Cat sleeps in there all the time and every vet check shows the cat to be in perfect health.

Sisi:

thanks. :)

I see these sort of questions all the time, and people get mad at me for answering me, I don't know why. But, using a human substance (food, medicine, toiletries) can be very harmful on an animal. But, seeing as thins is somewhere where it is there job to care for animals, this may be okay. But, if you do it for your pet, I'd check with the vet first.

Sequoia:

You should call your vet just to be absolutely sure!

Sisi:

Got a non-commital answer from her "it might be okay, then again some cats may not due well with it, I just don't know what to tell you unless we run some blood tests first". Thanks for responding.
