I got in a car accident in Washington DC last night. My car is totaled and I my neck hurts.

The police officer wrote up the report that it was the other car's fault. He told me to get in touch with my insurance company. Should I get an attorney? If yes should the attorney be based in Washington DC, or can the attorney be based in Maryland or Virginia. Please help.

You have to have an attorney that's licensed to practice law in the District of Colombia.

Who the officer assigned blame to is irrelevant unless he/she witnessed the accident and then and only in a civil court will the officers account of the accident be considered.

But if you have an injury it should be cared for by competent medical personnel.

You should go to the hospital and have your neck checked out. I'm canadian and here in Canada we only have a certain amount of time to make a claim....I'm not sure what are the laws where you are. But if you're in a lot of pain you should have that checked out ASAP before it's too late.

You want an attorney in your area that goes to court in 'D.C...
If you have an attorney that you used before, but he doesn't usually work D.C. courts, ask him anyway. Maybe he knows another attorney that he works with that can do it for you.

call your agent and file a report 1st. go see a doctor and fallow the doe prosses as fast as you can.
if you do not get any results with in say 5 to 7 days then yes contact a lawyer
